Monument of local revolutionary Panayot Volov
Description
Panayot Volov (1850 - 26 May 1876) was an important figure in the Bulgarian history - organizer and leader of Giurgiu Revolutionary Committee and participant in the April uprising* against the Ottoman Empire in 1876. He is one of the leaders who prepared and rose in rebellion the population of Sredna Gora (Mid Mountain) , including Strelcha. Unfortunately, the uprising was brutally crushed and Strelcha failed among the first. The Monument of Panayot Volov in Strelcha is built in honor of the revolutionary and is located in the town square bearing his name. *The April Uprising was an insurrection organised by the Bulgarians in the Ottoman Empire from April to May 1876, which indirectly resulted in the re-establishment of Bulgaria as an autonomous nation in 1878.The uprising was brutally crushed by the Turkish regular army and bashibazouk (Turkish irregular) bands. Some 29 thousand Bulgarians perished in the unequal struggle.The April Uprising was the best organized mass armed popular action against the oppressor in the last quarter of the 19th century, after the Paris Commune.

Role
Each year during the celebrations of National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria and the anniversary of the April Uprising worship is given and wreaths and flowers placed by the grateful Strelcha population and of its area in memory of those who died in the liberation struggles. National importance.
Potential usability
The monument is located in downtown and is included in the routes of some travel agencies. It has cognitive significance for the local population and the visitors of Strelcha. The State is necessary to support rural communities in need of funds to maintain and restore their military monuments. A possible development potential is to include this monument in guided tours and offer it with tourist packages during the Rose-picking season and also alongside spa weekend packages.
