Description
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Roch at Old Sava forms a part of the protected urban center of “Old Sava” (Stara Sava), which was built in the beginning of the 17th century. The church was built by order of the Bucelleni family and was consecrated by the Bishop of Ljubljana, Tomaž Hren in 1606. It is famous of its altar made of black marble. Apart from paintings by well known authors Janez Potočnik, Andrej Herrlein and Leopold Layer, the church also adorned three altar paintings by Venetian painter Nicola Grassi.
