Description
The Chestnut Road is a hiking road composed by eleven itineraries on the mountainside of the Lagorai massif, in eastern Valsugana Valley. All the itineraries have in common a worthy landscape-environmental element: the chestnut tree. Each itinerary tells a story about the local people, its traditions and its enogastronomic specialities. Each itinerary is easily accessible and quickly percorrible (from one to three hours). The paths and roads composing the Chestnut Road pass through forests, villages and the countryside and can be covered by foot, by bike and in some traits by horse.

Role
The Chestnut Road was created by ten municipalities as a project of enhancement of a common resource: a territory once famous for its chestnut production. The project tries to put together the enhancement of the local historical-cultural heritage (a Roman road, medieval castles, 18th century villas, places of worship) and the promotion of a restoration of the old chestnut-farming or farming areas, now abandoned or little used. Potential usability
By means of the eleven itineraries , the project of the Chestnut Road enlightens several historical, cultural and natural elements, in this way giving the visitor a big range of themes for discovering the territory. The Road crosses the Roman road Claudia Augusta Altinate and goes through castles, churches, places reminding events of the 1st World War and evocative landscapes. The Road promotion is in charge of the local Tourism Promotion Agency, but the big variety of themes could suggest to involve many different subjects (such as cultural associations, sport groups, municipalities) in the effort of commonly enhancing the local heritage, as well as organizing tourist hospitality.
