Description

Mryanskoto Kale fortress (ruins) is situated about 11 kilometers north of Strelcha on the right bank of the river Luda Yana. Originally it was built as a fortified residence of a Thracian king from the odrisi tribe who lived in the ІV century BC. It is believed that later it used to be a Roman fortress (II-III c. AD), which patrolled the road through Sredna Gora mountain. It is located in the woods on a hard to access mountain hill of the Sredna Gora mountain. The area of the fortification is 200 sq.m. and it is at least a two-storey height. The walls are made up of large stone blocks arranged in a chess-board order, weighing about 1 ton each .

The ruins are an interesting archaeological site for tourists and professionals as it can provide valuable historical information on ancient past of the area. Additionally, it is an ideal place for relaxation, especially in nice weather. Transnational importance

Potential usability

Problem is the lack of targeted funding for the conservation of immovable cultural heritage and building of infrastructure. Funds are necessary to assist the public bodies and private owners of immovable cultural resources to carry out this activity under the law when they are sloppy or unable to do so. One of the hotspots of conservation problems is the lack of a Trust Fund to serve as a financial guarantee of protection.The Operational Program 'Regional Development' will provide an opportunity to develop projects that foster cultural heritage sites as tourist attractions.
