Kasarna is a building, where worker's families lived.

Description

Kasarna is a late Baroque building dating from the end of the 18th century. It is one of the oldest preserved examples of common workers’ flats in the country. Ironmaking families lived there until 1983. In 1985 it was listed as a cultural monument. Since then, the Municipality of Jesenice was renovating it under the authority of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

Role

Today you can see inside of Kasarna a reconstruction of typical worker's flat from the 1930s and 1940s. Permanent ethnological exhibition shows the lifestyle of ironmaking families. Archive and photographic material of the Carniolan Industrial Company is kept in Kasarna and there is also an archives reading room. National importance

Potential usability

Kasarna has a smaller audio-visional room, which could be used more often for presentations and lectures. Museum could host some other muesum's exhibitions based on worker's flat culture and worker's life.
